Wastewater neutralisation

Many industrial and commercial operations produce wastewater that must be treated before being discharged into the sewerage system or surface water. The treatment of the wastewater must fulfil the requirements of the Water Protection Ordinance (GSchV). The pH value of the treated wastewater must be adjusted to between pH 6.5 and 9. Higher pH values (highly alkaline) can lead to damage to microorganisms, fish mortality and plant death. Acidic or alkaline wastewater is mainly produced by cleaning processes, the use of alkaline solutions in production or disinfection processes. Areas and industries where acidic or alkaline wastewater occurs are, for example
  • Construction sites
  • Cement and concrete industry
  • Chemical and pharmaceutical industry
  • Paper and pulp industry
  • Surface treatment of metals
  • Beverage industry
  • Food production and milk processing
Concrete work on construction and civil engineering sites in particular produces highly alkaline wastewater with pH values of pH 10 to pH 13 and higher. The regulations for dewatering construction sites are based on SIA standard 431, which is based on the permissible limit values in accordance with the Water Protection Ordinance. This alkaline construction site wastewater must be treated and neutralised in accordance with the Water Protection Ordinance. In particular, the discharge of alkaline and cementitious or turbid wastewater into a body of water or sewerage system is prohibited, as is seepage into the ground. Furthermore, the discharge of this wastewater is subject to authorisation. In most cantons, continuous recording of wastewater data is mandatory.

When discharging this water into the sewerage system, it must also be clarified whether the capacity of the sewerage system and the wastewater treatment plant is sufficient.

As an innovative provider, we are constantly developing our methods in order to be able to offer our customers effective and environmentally friendly methods. This gives you the certainty that the wastewater complies with regulations. We design and develop the neutralisation system according to your wishes and requirements.
